Psycho-analysis or confessions of a dieter *sigh*

Hey everyone - me again!  You know the hardest thing in the world (well, 2nd to child-rearing!). DIETING/LOSING WEIGHT/HEALTHY LIVING - whatever you call it - it's HARD!

Discipline is needed - more like a kick in the rear!  I am finding it really hard - and I don't know why! (Any shrinks out there? ).

This is it - I am 5'2.5, 10 stone 11 pounds [151lbs/68kg(?) - approx] My ideal weight should be between 7st 10lbs and 9 st 11lbs (7st 10lbs would be 'weigh'  too light). I bought a size 16 pair of trousers (I've not been size 16 for about 20 years )

Anybody reading this want to diet along with me and be challenged? - find me on Facebook (Carrie Davison) and add me! We can do this folks!

Ode to exercising

I started out on roller skates
But landed on my rear
Everyone was laughing
And shouting "Hear, Hear!"

I changed over to a bicycle
One with many gears
I fell off more than I was on
And ended up in tears

So then I tried some mountain climbing
The tallest I could find
My rope kept getting twisted
Which was rather a bind

I thought I'd try some badminton
What was the harm in that?
But when I tried to swipe the shuttle
I lost my blinkin' bat

**(OK I know it's a raquet - I'm using poetic licence )**

I think I'll stick with DVDs
It's better than the rest
I can prance when I want
And feel full of zest!

Announcement

From December 1st I am going to be losing weight to raise funds for an orphanage in South Africa!  My weight loss campaign will go on until 29th February 2008 so that's 3 months (or approx 13 weeks) to lose 28lbs so that will be 2+lbs a week! 

The main keys to weight loss are:

1) eat healthily (5+ portions of fruit or veg a day)
2) drink 2l of water 
3) exercise at least 30 mins a day every day

ASPIRE CHANNEL SWIM!

This year I did the Aspire Channel Swim again  - raising funds  for a spinal injuries charity! I had to swim 1,408 lengths of my local 25m pool - this is equivalent to 22 miles  The challenge ran from 17th September - 9th December 2007

Below is the break down  of how I did!

18/9 - 64 lengths
25/9 - 64
6/10 - 128
9/10 - 40
16/10 - 80
20/10 - 64
23/10 - 110
27/10 - 150
29/10 - 110
30/10 - 112
31/10 - 64
17/11 - 150
20/11 - 126
24/11 - 146 (I actually did 150 but only had 146 to go!)

Well that's it for another year!

Planet Bodies...

Why is it when you start to age
Gravity gets stronger?
Your chest is not as pert anymore
And ya legs seem short, not longer

Your rear hangs down to the floor
And it bounces when one skips
And when you bend to touch your toes
The sun begins an eclipse

Your stomach is like a mini planet
Soon it will have a moon
It may have two or 3 or 4
If you don't start a diet soon

The rings around your middle
Would make Saturn very jealous
So let's all start to diet
Let's all be very zealous

Hello folks

Well it's nearly 2 weeks since I last posted! - the spirit is willing but the flesh has turned to jelly through lack of exercise!  (OK it's not jelly but it's the closest I could find! )

Well these past 2 weeks have been the same as always - nothing much happening

I'm going camping next week for 3 days and so far the weather has been grotty  rain rain and more rain! It's June we're supposed to have  and  (Pina Coladas) on the beach! But instead we have to wear wellies and rain coats! (anyone from US - I think wellies are goloshes (sp?) there!)

Ode to Dieting - a poem I wrote

Once I went to a party
My plate ladened with food
Well I didn't really want
To appear awfully rude



So on went the sausage rolls
Those little vol au vonts
And I've got to admit it
Anything one would want



The pizzas looked just scrummy
And the sarnies were a treat
The quiche looked rather special
And so did the sweet



There were cheesecakes and gateaux
Things oozing with cream
Everything looked delicious
I felt like I could scream



Who cares? I spooned it in
To my over-sized bowl
Everything in large quantities
Some things were whole!



Oh well there's always tomorrow
To start on my slimming quest
I promise that tomorrow
I will do my utmost best


The only problem is you see
Tomorrow never comes
So if I'm not careful
I'll still be eating buns



Just pretend that somebody
Is giving you loadsa dosh
If you lose all your excess weight
And don't eat too much nosh!



Always think about being svelt
Tiny and size eight
And you could always go and buy
A tinsy winsy plate!



Do not despair dear dieter
We all have ups and downs
So if you have a slip up
Don't wear those awful frowns



Brush it off and start again
Turn over a new page
Don't be angry with yourself
Don't fly into a rage

Here are some ideas for burning off the food you've eaten:

IN 20 MINUTES
Walk up and down a flight of stairs = 200 calories
Gently jog or march on the spot = 220 calories
Go for a brisk walk and burn = 140 calories
Housework = 120 calories
Ironing = 80 calories
Weeding the garden = 100 calories
Digging the garden = 220 calories

IN 30 MINUTES
A brisk walk = 210 calories
A bike ride = 250 calories
A slow jog = 300-400 calories
Swimming = 240 calories
A rowing machine = 300-360 calories

IN AN HOUR
A brisk walk = 360-420 calories
Jogging = 600-720 calories
Cycling = 480-600 calories
Gardening = 300-360 calories
Aerobics = 480-660 calories
Tennis = 480-600 calories

6 week Walk it off Challenge

Health professionals reckon we should take at least 10,000 steps a day  but do we? I know I don't!  I did 16,000 a couple of weeks ago but to get over 10,000 is a rare 'feet' (get it - feat! - OK bad joke)!

I saw on iVillage about 3 years ago a 6 week walking challenge I posted it on my MSN group:
